Prevention of future musculoskeletal complications is crucial in the management of CP, and maximising a childs’ quality of life. Reduction of muscle overactivity or spasticity is a key therapeutic treatment goal in this process. Increased spasticity is associated with higher rates of muscle contracture, scoliosis, osteoarthritis, hip subluxation and dislocation and pain in children with CP.
